Life After College Meetings

Preparing scholars for post-graduation success at UC Merced

Meeting Purpose

The goal of these meetings is to guide scholars in mapping out their plans after graduating from UC Merced. Scholars meet with a Student Coordinator and a Program Coordinator at least once per semester.

  • Student Coordinator Meeting: Focuses on exploring post-college goals and creating two actionable SMART goals.
  • Program Coordinator Meeting: Reviews progress on initial goals and develops two additional SMART goals to maintain momentum.

Meeting Timeline & Scheduling

Deadline: Must be completed by 12/18/2026

At least one meeting must take place within the Fall 2026 semester.

Need a personal check-in or meeting on a needs basis with the Program Coordinator?

What are SMART Goals?

A SMART goal clearly outlines the key outcomes you are working to accomplish. Use the framework below to build your action steps:

S
Specific
Clearly defined actions answering what, why, and how.
M
Measurable
Clear indicators to track progress and identify completion.
A
Attainable
Challenging yet realistic based on available time, resources, and skills.
R
Realistic
Focused on relevant outcomes that directly support post-college success.
T
Time-bound
A defined time frame and specific deadline for your action plan.

SMART Goal Examples

Overarching Goal Statement: "I plan to get a job in Human Resources."

SMART Goal 1

Today, I will schedule a meeting with the SSHA career specialist so that they can review and provide feedback on my resume. I will schedule this meeting for a day before meeting with the GSP Program Coordinator in October. Once scheduled, I will add it to my calendar.

SMART Goal 2

I will attend the Human Resources panel that CCPA is hosting on Wednesday, September 8th at 2:00 PM. Before attending, I will prepare at least two questions to ask during the panel session.
