Socials
Socials are informal gatherings for scholars to get more acquainted with each other and the Guardian Scholars staff.
Workshops
The program offers its scholars both academic and life skill workshops. These workshops are intended to serve as learning experiences and provide students with useful skills.
Some past workshops include: Preparing for Graduate School, Professional Branding, Imposter Syndrome, and First Gen Success. Some workshops are done in collaboration with the Career and Professional Advancement Center, CARE, and other BSC programs.
Mentorship
Guardian Scholars receive one-on-one mentorship from the Program Coordinator and Student Coordinators to ensure personal and academic success.
Peer 2 Peer refers to required semesterly meetings with Student Coordinators where scholars discuss academics, career goals, personal stories, and life.
Liaison Services
Guardian Scholars staff work closely with key departments—including the Dean of Students, Financial Aid, and Housing—to ensure student needs are met efficiently.
If we are unable to directly assist you, we will connect you with a specific contact at a UC Merced department or office.
Graduate Fee Waivers
Guardian Scholars staff work closely with prospective graduate applicants to provide verification of program participation required at the time of application.
We encourage students to connect with us prior to submitting graduate applications so we can support verification of UCM Guardian Scholars Program participation.
