Community Impact Summer Internship

Program Overview 

The Community Impact Summer Internship is an 8 -week opportunity designed for students in the Guardian Scholars and Underground Scholars programs who are interested in gaining hands-on experience while giving back to their communities. 
 
This internship will take place between the weeks of June 1 through the week of August 10th (depending on the exact date you start your internship). During this time, scholars will partner with a community-based organization and complete meaningful work that supports populations they are personally connected to. 
 
This opportunity is open to: 
  • Current Guardian Scholars  
  • Current Underground Scholars  

Students must be in good standing with their program and able to commit to the full duration of the internship. 


Program Goals

  • Build Career Readiness and Professional Skill: Scholars will gain hands-on work experience that strengthens key skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism. 
  • Strengthen Community Engagement and Service: Scholars will contribute meaningful work to organizations that support communities they are part of, helping address real needs and build stronger community connections. 
  • Expand College Awareness and Access: Through their work, scholars will serve as role models and share their educational journeys, helping plant the seed for youth and community members to consider college or university as a future option. 

Program Requirements: 

As part of this initiative, students are required to: 
 
Secure and work with a community-based organization that serves one or more of the following populations:
  • Individuals from low-income backgrounds  
  • Individuals facing housing or financial instability  
  • Individuals impacted by systemic barriers  
  • Individuals from underserved communities 
  • Complete a minimum of 80 hours over the 8-week period  
  • Engage in work that directly contributes to the mission of the organization and supports the community served  
  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with program professional staff or student leads 
  • Participate in and present their experience, key learnings, and community impact at the Community Impact Showcase scheduled for August 14th 

Students who successfully complete all program requirements are eligible to receive up to a $1,500 stipend. The stipend will be disbursed by financial aid to the account you have on file.
